ITINERARY

Overview:
“Experience the best of what Scandinavia has to offer: fjords, waterfalls, coastal and city culture, the unique Viking History, a glacier, mountains & majestic forests, and idyllic islands, followed by a road trip in the Baltic Countries, uncovering the historic city of Tallinn, lively Riga, and charming
Vilnius.

The tour only includes guiding in Oslo, Bergen, Stockholm, Tallinn, Riga and Vilnius. The rest of the time is at leisure to explore the region at your own pace. There will be an escort following the route all the way from Bergen to Vilnius, so don’t worry about having vouchers for hotels or trains, these will be taken care of, so you can sit bac k, relax, and enjoy the ride!”

Day 1 – Arrival to Norway
“Welcome to The Kingdom of Norway – a country with the most beautiful fjords on Earth.

Arrival in Bergen and transfer to the hotel by using shuttle bus.

Rest of the day at leisure.

Day 2 – Bergen
“Breakfast in the hotel.

Discover Bergen – the world heritage city. Bergen is the Gateway to the Fjords of Norway. As a UNESCO World Heritage City and a European City of Culture, the Bergen region has the ideal combination of nature, culture, and exciting urban life all year around.  At 10:00, meet your local guide at the reception of your hotel and enjoy a walking tour of the city of Bergen. Pass through the most emblematic places such as the Hanseatic Bryggen, with the church of Mary, the Hakon fortress and the famous fish market. You can visit the Fløibanen Funicular, which will take you on the top of the Mountain Fløyen, for overall view of the city. To get a real taste of Norway, we would recommend choosing one of our optional activities:
Bergen Food Tour (15:00, approx. 3 hrs.)

Day 3 – Bergen – Sognefjord
“Breakfast in the hotel.

Morning walk to the Bergen port where you will embark a cruise to Balestrand. Enjoy the views of Sognefjord, the King of Fjords.

Departure from Bergen: 08:00 am (schedule subject to change).
Arrival in Balestrand: 11:55 am.

Upon arrival in Balestrand – short walk from port to your hotel.
Rest of the day at leisure.
Dinner time will be advised by your escort.

Day 4 – Sognefjord
“Breakfast in the hotel.

Day at leisure to explore the region on your own OR you can opt for a HALF DAY EXCURSION TO FJÆRLAND:  Round-trip Balestrand-Fjærland, including Bøyabreen, Supphellebreen and a visit to the Norwegian Glacier Museum. We sail through the beautiful Fjærland fjord with amazing views of the steep mountains, the green fjord itself and vibrant landscape. We arrive at Fjærland, where the glacier meets the fjord. Here we  wait for a shuttle bus which takes us to the Norwegian Glacier Museum. Enjoy Ivo Caprino’s panoramic film about Jostedalen Glacier and the fascinating exhibition.  The trip continues by coach to the two glaciers –Supphellebreen and Bøyabreen – before the coach takes us back to Fjærland. The full-day excursion concludes with a boat trip back to Hella/Balestrand.  Coach to the glaciers and museum entrance are included in the round-trip fare.  We recommend that you book this excursion when you book the tour, as we cannot guarantee availability if booked upon arrival in Norway.

Day 5 – Balestrand To Oslo
“Breakfast in the hotel.

The continuation of your journey on the Sognefjord today stars with a cruise. Sognefjord – the King of Norway and the longest fjord in Norway. The initial part of the fjord, called Aurlandsfjord, is a 17- kilometer arm of the world’s second longest fjord, the Sognefjord (204 km). It is one of the most picturesque fjords in the world.  Arrive in FlĂĄm, where you will have some free time to discover this beautiful village.  Departure to Myrdal by train. Myrdal station is a mountain railway station and junction, located about 13 km from the village FlĂĄm. Board the famous FlĂĄmsbana – one of the steepest trainlines in the world. The train journey runs through fantastic nature, past the Rallar road, steep mountains, breath-taking waterfalls and no less than 20 tunnels. It offers so many viewpoints that many feel like travelling multiple times between the mountain and the fjord.

Day 6 – Oslo
“Breakfast in the hotel.

Meet your local guide at the reception of the hotel and depart for 3 hrs city sightseeing of this vibrant capital city starting at 11:00am.  Guided tour of the city including the Frogner Park, with all sculptural Vigeland, the museum of Viking ships (entrance not included), showing three original Viking Age ships, the Royal Palace, City Hall, and Akershus Fortress.

Day 7 – Oslo To Stockholm
“Departure to Stockholm by high-speed train. Arrival in Stockholm, a city surrounded by almost 25.000 small islands.  Rest of the day at leisure – walk along the streets and explore the city of the royal family, and the main Drottninggatan – Queen Street, with many shops, bars, and cafes.

Day 8 – Stockholm

Meet your tour leader and a local guide at the reception of your hotel and depart for 3 hrs city sightseeing Stockholm. Stockholm is generally referred to as Beauty on Water, or Venice of the North, which is understandable, as the city is built upon 14 islands. It is surrounded by Lake Mälaren, and by the Baltic Sea. City’s grand public buildings, palaces, rich cultural history and museums reveal its 700 year-old history beautifully.  During your sightseeing tour you will visit the Gamla Stan (Old town), where you will be charmed by cobblestone streets, crooked but beautifully preserved buildings & The Royal Palace.

Day 9 – Stockholm To Helsinki

09:00 am: Meet your Tour Leader and a local guide at the reception of your hotel and depart for a 3-hour Sightseeing Tour in Stockholm.  During your sightseeing tour you will visit the Gamla Stan (Old town), where you will be charmed by cobblestone streets, crooked but beautifully preserved buildings, The Royal Palace, gothic churches and excellent cafés, bars, restaurants, and Swedish design-ware shops.

In the afternoon, transfer to the Stockholm harbour and board your overnight cruise to Helsinki.”

Day 10 – Helsinki To Tallinn
“Breakfast on board.

Welcome to Finland and its magnificent capital city Helsinki!  Upon arrival to Helsinki you will enjoy a 2-hour Sightseeing Tour of Helsinki. Amongst others, you will see Senaatintori, the Senate square’s, and its magnificent architectural ensemble. Right around the corner near the harbour, you will find the Kauppatori, the picturesque market square, characterised by an abundance of flowers, fruits and busy traders. TheTuomio Kirkko (cathedral) is our next stop. It was built in the 19th century and has an impressive copper dome. Concerts are regularly taking place inside. Another church, the Temppeliaukio Kirkko is carved into the rock, which gives excellent acoustics. One of the last stops is the Uspenski Cathedral – the Orthodox Cathedral in neo-Byzantine style rears its mighty mass of red brick in the Katajanokka Island.  Late afternoon transfer to the cruise-ship terminal, where you will embark on a 2-hour-cruise to Tallinn.

Day 11 – Tallinn

In the morning, 3-hour Sightseeing Tour of Tallinn with a local guide: The old town is located in the heart of Tallinn. Divided in two very distinctive parts: Toompea hill and The lower town, centered on Raekoja plats (the Town Hall Square) is still surrounded by a 2,5km-fortified wall. Through the itinerary, you will admire the Orthodox Cathedral Alexander Nevsky and the Toompea castle (home to the Estonian Parliament), The City Hall Square, the house of the Brotherhood of Blackheads, St Olaf and Niguliste churches.  Rest of the day at leisure to continue exploring the city at your own pace, visit some more attractions, try the local cuisine do some shopping, etc.

Day 12 – Tallinn – Riga
“Breakfast in the hotel.

Free time in the morning to further explore Tallinn!   You may choose to further discover Tallinn’s on your own or join some of the offered optional activities. We recommend that you book the optional activities in advance.  Afternoon departure towards Riga on a long-distance coach, with a short break in Pärnu, a bustling beach retreat with early 20th -century buildings, and a beautiful promenade where you can try a local snack before continuing to Latvia.

Day 13 – Riga
“Breakfast in the hotel.

In the morning, 3-hour Sightseeing Tour of Riga, where we visit the UNESCO world heritage sights as elegant Art Nouveau district, the old town with many medieval churches in it. Drive along central boulevards of Riga surrounded with beautiful city Canal Park and Bastion hill, many beautiful parks, New Opera  house from the XIX century, the Riga Castle build for Riga’s archbishop in the 14th century, largest in Europe Riga’s Central market build from reused zeppelin hangars. During the walk along cobble streets of Riga we see impressive Powder Tower, Swedish barracks, and Swedish gate, “”Three Brothers”,
Brotherhood of Blackheads building established there 600 years ago, majestic Dome Cathedral founded in 1211 with one of the best organs in Europe with nearly 7000 pipes, house of cats, Richard Vagner Street, and theatre where he conducted in 1830s, Great and Small guild houses.  Rest of the day at leisure to continue exploring the city at your own pace, visit some more attractions and try the local cuisine.

Day 14 – Riga – Vilnius

Free time in the morning to continue exploring Riga! You can stroll around the beautiful streets of the Old Town, do some shopping, or have a traditional Latvian meal. Afternoon departure to Vilnius on a long-distance coach. On the way, after crossing the border to Lithuania, a short photo break at the impressive pilgrimage site Hill of Crosses, which origins remain a mystery.

Day 15 – Vilnius

In the morning, 3-hour Sightseeing Tour of Vilnius. The Old Town, whose architectural ensemble of Central European Catholic inspiration contrasts with the Germanic influence found in the other Baltic capitals, offers a maze of winding streets, inner courtyards, old churches that seem jealously hide some mysteries. This tour notably includes Vilnius Cathedral and a visit to Saint Anne’s Church (ext.): one of Lithuania’s
Gothic masterpieces. Rest of the day at leisure; enjoy some last-minute shopping for Baltic souvenirs, try the local cuisine or choose some of the optional activities.

Day 16 – Departure

Depending on your departure time, you might still have some time to enjoy in the city.
