ITINERARY
Tour overview:
The Basque Country boasts one of the best gastronomies in the world, beaches surrounded by nature, and examples of avant-garde architecture. Start in Barcelona with a panoramic tour of the city’s highlights. Visit the beautiful coastal city, San Sebastian. Experience Bilbao with its new Guggenheim Museum which has achieved international fame and the spectacular Vizcaya Suspension Bridge, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.Enjoy Salamanca, known as the University City, with its great architectural and artistic wealth. Continue to Madrid, the capital of Spain.
Day 1 (Mon): Barcelona
Meet and assistance at the airport, transfer to the hotel. Balance of the day at leisure. Accommodation at the hotel.
Day 2 (Tue): Barcelona
Breakfast at the hotel. Call on bus terminal (Balmes, 5) at 08:00 for a morning Highlights city tour of Barcelona. Half-day sightseeing tour around Barcelona that will allow you to discover the history of the city while visiting some of the most important places in a comfortable and easy way. The first part of the visit consists in a guided walking tour through the small and narrow streets of the Gothic Quarter, the oldest part of the city. During this early visit we will see Las Ramblas, de Cathedral Square, The Cathedral (free time to visit the Cathedral by yourself), the Old Jewish Quarter, among other interesting places. Later we will take our bus to start with a panoramic tour around the rest of the city. We will pass through the elegant Passeig de Grà cia Street, where there are located two of the most important Gaudi’s buildings (Casa Batlló and Casa Milà “la Pedrera”), the Triumph Arc, the Olympic Village and the Olympic Port. For the next part of the visit we will access to the Montjuic Mountain. This is an important place because was the main scenery of the Olympic Games in the 1992. We will see the Olympic stadium from the bus and later we will have the opportunity to enjoy the panoramic views of the city riding the aerial tramway (subject to the weather conditions). For the next part we will go to the Spanish Village (Poble Espanyol) that consist in a synthesis of all the cultural variety in Spain. During the visit you will be given some free time to enjoy the different areas inspired in different Spanish regions, where you will find craft shops restaurants and bars. At the end, back to the bus, we will leave Montjuic and come back to the city centre passing through España square, the twin Venetian towers, the MNAC and the Shopping centre Las Arenas, build in an old bullring. We will arrive to Catalunya square, and we will end up the tour. Afternoon is at leisure to enjoy this wonderful city and surroundings. Accommodation at the hotel. (B)
Note: January to March (dates to be confirmed) the cable car doesn’t work due to revision tasks, this service will be replaced by a tapas tasting in Spanish Village.
Day 3 (Wed): Barcelona – Zaragoza (Train) – San Sebastian
Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to “Sants” train station to depart by AVE, high speed train to Zaragoza. Meet assistance. Transfer to the city center to join the tour. In the afternoon, we will continue to San Sebastian, it’s one of the most famous tourist destinations where they hold the International Film Festival. Panoramic city tour of this marvel style bourgeois city, seeing the extraordinary landscape dominated by the bay and the magnificent La Concha beach. Accommodation at the hotel. (B)
Day 4 (Thu): San Sebastian – Bilbao – Castro Urdiales – Santander
Breakfast at hotel. We will approach Mount Igueldo, to contemplate the marvelous views of the city and then proceed towards Bilbao. Panoramic driver in Bilbao and free time on the esplanade where The Guggenheim Museum is located in order to admire this modern architectural building. Proceed to the old fishing village “Castro Urdiales”. Free time. Departure to Santander, a port city located between the sea and the mountains, well known for its Sardinero Beach, one of the best known beaches in Spain. Free time to stroll through this elegant city. Accommodation at the hotel. (B)
Day 5 (Fri): Santander – Santillana – Covadonga – Oviedo
Breakfast at hotel. Departure to Santillana, it’s one of the most important historical artistic towns in Spain. It contains architectural treasures such as the Collegiate of Santa Juliana, a Jewel of the Romanesque Arquitecture in Cantabria. Continue to Covadonga, where you will have free time to see the Sanctuary and the Grotto where you will see the patroness of Asturias our Lady of Covadonga. In the afternoon, departure to Oviedo, where you will see on a series of hills the beauty of Saint Maria de Naranco Church, Jewel of the pre Romanic asturian architecture. Free time to explore Oviedo, many of their streets are pedestrian, where you will be able to see World Heritage sites like The Cathedral, a splendid example of gothic asturian architecture. Accommodation at the hotel. (B)
Day 6 (Sat): Oviedo – Salamanca – Madrid
Breakfast at hotel. Departure to Salamanca. Short stop and free time in this University City (World Heritage) of great architectural and artistic wealth. Continue to Madrid. Accommodation at the hotel.(B)
Day 7 (Sun): Madrid
Breakfast at the hotel. Morning Madrid panoramic city tour; find the medieval origins of the city, like the Arabic fortress, at the Barrio de la MorerĂa, famous for its historical buildings. Drive through the courtesan district of the Hapsburgs characterized by Phillip II and its Renaissance and Baroque style buildings, Puerta del Sol, Plaza Mayor and Plaza de la Villa; the Madrid of the Bourbons and the complex town planning schemes of Charles III, the Royal Palace, Cibeles and Neptuno Fountains and the Puerta de Alcalá. Admire the XIX C. works such as Prado Museum. The contemporary Madrid with areas such as Gran VĂa, Castellana, the district of Salamanca, Plaza Castilla and Parque del Oeste, as well as commercial and financial areas of Modern Madrid, the emblematic Las Ventas Bullring and the Santiago BernabĂ©u Football Stadium. Afternoon free to explore the wonders that the city has to offer. Accommodation at the hotel. (B)
Day 8 (Mon): Madrid
Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to Madrid’s airport. END OF OUR SERVICE. (B)
