ITINERARY
Tour Overview:
December in Germany is a magical time. Explore some of the country’s best Christmas markets filled with twinkling lights, roasting chestnuts, beautiful Christmas decorations and ornaments. Your 8 days in Germany start in Munich and continue to the UNESCO World Heritage listed city of Regensburg, Nuremberg, Rothenberg, Wurzburg, and Frankfurt. In each city, you will have a chance to explore the Christmas Markets. Maybe even take in the Christmas Museum in Rothenberg. And try some of the local delicacies while wandering through the markets.
8 Days: Munich – Nuremberg – Wurzburg Frankfurt
Day 1, Dec 8: Arrive Munich (D)
Arrival to Munich and meet your tour manager and coach for transfer to the hotel.
In the afternoon, meet your guide and coach for a city sightseeing tour. Admire architectural wonders like the Old Town Hall, St Peter’s Church and the Munich Residenz; stroll through the lively Viktualienmarkt. Accompanied by an expert guide, you’ll have ample opportunities to learn more about Munich’s history, cultural heritage and beer-brewing legacy, while walking between the central squares of Marienplatz and Odeonsplatz. Enjoy a group welcome dinner at the world-famous Hofbräuhaus beer hall where you will experience the most Bavarian dinner one can find in the city! After dinner the Christmas Markets are free to explore at your leisure.
Day 2, Dec 9: Munich (B)
Today is a free day to enjoy Munich on your own arrangements. No Coach this day Spend the day exploring the Christmas Markets and take in the festive season.Overnight Munich
Day 3, Dec 10: Munich – Nuremberg via Regensburg (B)
After breakfast, depart with your coach and tour manager for Regensburg. On arrival, enjoy a sightseeing tour walking through the Old Town your guide will tell the history of Regensburg. You will pass by such sights as the Dom (Cathedral), the old Rathaus (Town Hall) and the Steinerne BrĂĽcke (Stone Bridge) to the castle of Thurn & Taxis. Just like in the rest of the country, Christmas in the UNESCO World Heritage-listed city of Regensburg, is not a small affair. Here, several markets are happening during the Advent and you will have time to enjoy them prior to continuing to Nuremberg for the night.
Day 4: Nuremberg (B,L)
A local guide will introduce you to the beautiful and prosperous medieval walled city. You will explore the enchanting Old Town with its fantastic regional food and drink as well visit Alrbrecht Duerer’s massive half-timbered house where the famous artist lived and worked. In the afternoon to enjoy the Christmas Markets. Standing in the picturesque Hauptmarkt Square, while savoring the aroma of local gingerbread, bratwurst and glühwein it is not difficult to understand why this is one of the best Christmas Markets in Germany. Enjoy a culinary walking tour of Nuremberg’s famous Christkindlesmarkt. What makes it so unique? Our tour will guide you through decorated wooden stalls from traditional sellers to newcomers. Experience their history and stories. Taste culinary classics and new creations. Culinary stops: not only Bratwurst and Lebkuchen (gingerbread), but also Glühwein (mulled wine), Baggers (potato pancakes) and much more.
Day 5: Nuremberg – Wurzburg via Rothenberg (B)
Travel to Wurzburg today with a stop to visit the medieval town of Rothenburg. The Rothenburg Christmas Market dates as far back as the 15th century, this Advent tradition enjoys a rich heritage. As such, several traditions go hand in hand with the market. Wander the narrow streets and enjoy the Christmas market with your tour manager. We suggest visiting the Christmas Museum for the most extensive collection of traditional German Christmas decorations. After the visit, continue your transfer to Wurzburg for overnight.
Day 6: Wurzburg (B)
Enjoy a morning tour with your guide of Wurzburg, the “Pearl of the Romantic Road” with its Old Main Bridge, towering fortress, and baroque Bishop’s Residence. The afternoon is free at leisure to enjoy the Christmas Market. Overnight Wurzburg.
Day 7: Wurzburg – Frankfurt (B/D)
Travel to Frankfurt with your coach and tour manager. Because of its long history, the Frankfurt Christmas Market has developed a strong Frankfurt quality where visitors can buy handicrafts, wooden toys, and treats, including the famous Brenten and Quetschemaennchen, or miniature candy figures, made only by local artisans. One of the largest and oldest Christmas markets in all of Germany, the Frankfurt Christmas Market, or Frankfurter Weihnachtsmarkt, is a massive event that covers a vast area in the center of the city, from the Hauptwache square to the banks of the river Main. With its giant Christmas tree towering the festivities, its traditional wooden huts and the beautiful backdrop of the Römerberg, it attracts thousands of locals and visitors every year. Enjoy a delicious bratwurst, a mug of mulled wine and the delicious marzipan treats available while listening to the Christmas songs performed by local artists. Enjoy a group farewell dinner at a local restaurant. Overnight Frankfurt.
Day 8: Departure (B)
After breakfast, transfer with your coach and tour manager to the airport.
