Lisbon
Lisbon is Europe’s second oldest capital and once home to the world’s greatest explorers. It is the closest European capital to the US. This city of the seven hills is rich in history and culture with World Heritage sites and museum treasures. This contemporary city offers so much: delicious cuisine from Michelin starred restaurants and bustling tavernas, time to relax and take in one of the many scenic vistas or partake in the lively nightlife. This charming, intimate city is easy to get around and close to the fairy tale palace in Sintra and world class beaches.
Fatima
Fatima is a town located north of Lisbon. It is known as the place where the Virgin Mary appeared to three shepherd children - Lucia, Francisco, and Jacinta – at the Cova da Iria (a valley). Today, the Basillica de Fatima attracts millions of pilgrims and tourists come from all over the world as a center of the Catholic Faith. The peak months are May and October, which the apparitions originally began and ended.
Porto
Porto, or Oporto, is the second largest city of Portugal. Located alongside the Douro River, Porto is considered a World Heritage city due to its medieval structures and historical landscape. Aside from tasting its world-famous “port wine”, visitors will admire the Cathedral, Stock Exchange building and Santa Clara church.
Batalha
Batalha, meaning Battle, is a town located in west-central Portugal. It is known for the Batalha Monastery, a masterpiece of Gothic and Manueline architecture, considered a World Heritage site by UNESCO.
Nazare
Nazare is a fishing town located in the historical Estremadura province of Portugal. Known for its picturesque seaside village and long sandy beaches, Nazare is a popular summer tourist destination. It is a surfer’s paradise due to the big waves!
Coimbra
Coimbra is a municipality in west-central Portugal, located on the northern bank of the Mondego River. It is the city seat of one of the oldest universities in Europe and the birthplace of Fado. Previously the country’s capital, Coimbra is known for its medieval architecture and historical treasures.
Alcobaca
Alcobaca is a city, and municipality, located in central Portugal. Here you will find the Cistercian Monastery of Santa Maria d’Alcobaca – founded in the 12th century and designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Today, it is Portugal’s largest church.
