Learn about Mexico’s treasures in 7 days with SITA. In Mexico City, visit ‘La Casa Azul’ (the Frida Kahlo Museum). See where she lived and her important works. Visit San Miguel de Allende, a favorite of artists and intellectuals. See the Baroque to Neo-Gothic architecture. Visit Guadalajara known as the ‘Pearl of the Occident’ for its beauty. In Tequila, visit a distillery to learn the process of making tequila and enjoy a tasting. Spend a night in a hotel surrounding by the Agave fields.
Day 1 - Arrive Mexico City
Arrive in Mexico City today. Welcome at the airport and transfer to the hotel.
Day 2 - Mexico City
Enjoy a tour of Mexico City. Visit the Plaza de la Constitución known as the Zócalo, surrounded by beautiful baroque buildings including the Cathedral and the National Palace (outside view) headquarters of the Presidency of the Republic where you can admire the murals of Diego de Rivera. Visit the Templo Mayor, the great temple of the capital of the Aztecs recently discovered. Continue towards the south of the City, on the way we will visit the Bazar de San Ángel (only on Saturdays), one of the most colorful in the City. Transfer to Coyoacán, lunch at a local restaurant. Afternoon visit the Frida Kahlo Museum better known as “La Casa Azul (The blue house)”, the place where the painter was born and died. In it you will find personal objects that reveal the intimate universe of the Latin American artist, as well as some important works, such as Viva la Vida (1954), Frida y la Cesárea (1931) and Retrato de mi Padre Wilhem Kahlo (1952), among others. Day 3 - Mexico City / Querétaro / San Miguel de Allende (290 kms)
In the morning, depart by road to Querétaro which is located at 211 kms away from Mexico City. Queretaro is the capital of the state of the same name and a very important historical city during the fight for the Mexican independence. Visit of the city and continue to San Miguel de Allende that is located an hour away from Queretaro, place of favorite residence of artists and intellectuals and famous for its buildings that go from Baroque to Neo-Gothic, among which you will admire how the impressive parish of San Miguel Arcángel stands out. Day 4 - San Miguel de Allende / Guanajuato (94 kms)
In the morning depart to Atotonilco. Visit the majestic Sanctuary of the 18th century dedicated to Jesus Nazareno. In 2008 Unesco included it in the list of World Heritage Sites for its architecture and decoration that testifies the influence of the doctrine of Saint Ignatius of Loyola. The church is composed of a main nave, seven annexed chapels, sacristy and six dressing rooms. The chapels are decorated with paintings by Juan Rodríguez Juárez. Continue to Guanajuato to visit this beautiful colonial city, starting with a panoramic view of the Pipila monument and then continue to the center to see the Juarez Theater, the Basilica, the University, as well as it’s picturesque and narrow colonial and underground streets and the famous Callejón del Beso. Day 5 - Guanajuato / Guadalajara (270Kms)
In the morning, departure to the city of Guadalajara, also called for its beauty “La Perla de Occidente” (The Pearl of Occident) located 3.5 hours away from Guanajuato. Arrival and visit of the Tlaquepaque district famous for manufacturing the finest crafts of the State. In the afternoon visit the City Center including the Degollado Theater, Government Palace, the Cathedral, the Rotunda of illustrious men and a panoramic view of the Hospicio Cabañas. Transfer to the hotel. (B)
Day 6 - Guadalajara / Tequila (65Kms)
Today depart to the region of Tequila, name of the old and well-known Mexican drink. In the town of Tequila, we will visit a distillery, “La Rojeña”, where you can see the process of Tequila preparation including a tasting. In the afternoon, transfer to the hotel “Matices Hotel de Barricas!, where you can live the experience of sleeping in rooms located in fields of Agave, a millenary plant that in pre-Hispanic times was even more important than corn. With the arrival of the Spaniards they described the agave plant as “The Tree of Wonders” for its riches that contributed to the livelihood of the people, from which Tequila is now extracted. The landscape of agave crops was declared by UNESCO a World Heritage Site since 2006. (B)
