Thimphu
Thimphu is the capital of Bhutan as well its largest city. A mini metropolis, Thimpu is the heart of Bhutan, full of monasteries, shopping complexes and chalet like apartment buildings. It is also home to some of the important political buildings, including newly formed National Assembly, Dechencholing Palace and the official residence of the king. One of the city’s centerpiece, the famous clock tower area, is now a park-cum-open air theatre where live cultural performances take place. Thimphu is a great way of experiencing Bhutan’s culture in respect of religion, national dress code, customs, dance and literature. Some of its most popular attractions are Changangkha Lhakhang – the most important temple for children born in Thimphu, The National Textile Museum and the Centenary Farmer’s Market.
Paro
Paro is a historic town with many sacred sites and historical buildings, with the Paro Valley being recognized as one of the most beautiful in Bhutan. Paro’s main street is lined with colourfully painted wooden shopfronts and restaurants and it is home to 150 temples and monasteries, some of which were constructed in the 14th century. Paro Taktsang is the famous Tiger’s Nest Buddhist monastery and the city’s most well known attraction. With many new, high-end tourist resorts and hotels to choose from, visitors can truly appreciate this little gem of Bhutan. Some of its other attractions include The National Museum of Bhutan and Drugyel Dzongand.
