Tour Overview

“The tour provides an in-depth introduction to an island archipelago in the North-Atlantic which thus far has remained unknown to many. The islands’ landscapes are unusual and shaped by the roughness of the ocean surrounding them. The region is remote, yet the people of the Faroes are warm and hospitable.
You will get to know its walkable, small capital Torshavn and experience several islands on guided excursions. And you view the impressive cliffs and the wild bird population from the water. A tour includes breakfast in the centrally located hotel and one dinner highlights the Faroe cuisine. ”

Day 1 – Sunday – Arrive Vagar

Upon arrival at Vágar airport you will already find yourself surrounded by impressive nature. At the airport a shuttle awaits you that will take you to Tórshavn where you will stay for the next six nights at the downtown Hotel Tórshavn with easy access to all the Faroese capital has to offer.

Day 2 – Monday – Full Day Tour of Vagar Islands

Your first adventure will be visiting the saga island Sandoy and the historical village of Kirkjubøur. Through the newest subsea tunnel on the islands, we drive to Sandoy. Hear the saga stories while we drive from village to village. Before heading back to Tórshavn we stop in Kirkjubøur. Here we visit the roughly 900-year-old Roykstovan and the Ólav’s church from AD 1111, named after King Olav the Holy. This church is the oldest church in the Faroe Islands and is still in use.

Day 3 – Tuesday – Vagar Sightseeing

Today you are going on a full day tour exploring Vestmanna, Kvívík, Gásadal and Sandavág. You will be picked up at the hotel and from here you can relax and take in the beautiful scenery while a guide tells you stories about the places you pass. In Vestmanna you will go on a boat trip experiencing the highly impressive bird cliffs. After the boat trip you will stop for lunch before heading to the wonderful Kvívík, where you will visit the Viking settlements – This will give you an insight into how the Vikings lived. On the tour you will also experience Gásadalur, which is home to the beautiful and probably the most photographed waterfall Múlafossur. From Gásadalur you will also have a wonderful view of the island Mykines.

Day 4 – Wednesday – Vagar

Today you will visit the heart of the Faroe Islands. You will visit the villages Saksun, Tjørnuvík and Gjógv. In Saksun you will see the seawater lagoon and the beautiful old church. Tjørnuvík is known for its magical black sandy beach surrounded by high mountains and stunning view of Risin & Kellingin, also known as the Giant and the Hag. Legend has it that they tried to drag the Faroe Islands to Iceland. You will also hike the highest mountain in the Faroe Islands, Slættaratindur, but don’t worry, the hike will start from the mountain road and give you a 550-meter head start. Following the hike, you will visit the lovely Gjógv that is named after its amazing gorge. In Gjógv you will enjoy your lunch and take your time strolling around the village and enjoying its beauty. On this day you will also see the highest waterfall, Fossá.

Day 5 – Thursday – Vagar / Torshavn Sightseeing

“During a 2-hour private walking tour of Tórshavn you will visit the old part of town “úti á Reyni”, the world’s oldest parliament “Tinganes” and the fort “Skansin”. The tour gives a good overview of the Faroese history and the city’s architecture.
The afternoon is at leisure. Rest, shop or take the opportunity to visit the craft and wool shops in the city center, along with some of the cozy cafés. If you like artifacts, you can visit museums in the city. The evening offers a dinner at Ruts restaurant which is located at Hotel Føroyar. Ruts restaurant is an evening restaurant with vegetarian and pescatarian set menus consisting mainly of local and seasonal ingredients. To complement the innovative menus, you get to enjoy the best view in town overlooking Tórshavn, Nólsoy and the fjord.

Day 6 – Friday – Vagar Northern Islands Tour

On this day you will explore the Northern Islands. You will visit the wonderful Borðoy, where you will explore the city of Klaksvík, which is known as the heart of the fishing industry. Then you will visit the secluded village Kunoy – which funnily enough is on the island Kunoy – before going to the beautiful village Viðareiði, the northernmost village in the Faroe Islands. On your way back to Tórshavn you will drive through the impressive Subsea tunnel with a roundabout.

Day 7 – Saturday – Depart Vagar

Your guided experience of this unusual and beautiful small country has come to an end and a shuttle taxi will take you back to Vágar airport.
