Tour Overview

See the best of the Beautiful Balkans in 10 days. Travel to North Macedonia, Greece, and Bulgaria.
Start in Skopje, the capital of North Macedonia. Visit the painted mosque in Tetovo; the beautiful monastery of St. Naum the shore of Ohrid lake; and in Bitola, see the Roman amphitheatre and incredible mosaics at the Heraclea Lyncestis archaeological complex. In Bulgaria, xxplore the 10th century Eastern Orthodox Rila Monastery and enjoy a tour of the capital, Sofia including the Alexander Nevski Cathedral, one of the largest Eastern Orthodox cathedrals in Europe.

Day 1: Skopje

Arrival at Skopje Airport. Meet with local guide and transfer to the city. Full day sightseeing tour of Skopje with local guide, walking tour with visit of Mustafa Pasha Mosque, Old Bazaar, lunch at local restaurant. After lunch, visit to St. Panteleimon Monastery. Return to the city centre for a walk around Macedonia Square. Check-in at hotel. Dinner at the hotel. Overnight in Skopje. (L,D)

Day 2 : Skopje – Matka Valley – Tetovo – Mavrovo – Ohrid

Breakfast. Transfer to Ohrid via Matka Canyon Valley & Tetovo. Upon arrival at Matka Canyon – visit of Matka Monastery, boat trip along the lake and a visit of the famous cave in the canyon. Continue to the town of Tetovo for a visit of the Painted Mosque. Lunch at a local restaurant. Drive to Mavrovo area and visit of St. John Bigorski Monastery. Continue to Ohrid. Accommodation at the hotel. Dinner. Overnight in Ohrid. (BLD)

Day 3 : Ohrid

Breakfast. Morning sightseeing tour of Ohrid with local guide: visit to St. Sophia Cathedral, St. John Church, Samuel Fortress, Church of Sveta Bogordica Perivlepta. Lunch at a local restaurant. After lunch, free time at leisure. Optional Ohrid Lake boat cruise (30 min). Transfer to the hotel. Dinner. Overnight in Ohrid. (BLD)

Day 4 : Ohrid – St.Naum Monastery – Bitola

Breakfast. Morning sightseeing tour of Ohrid with local guide: visit to St. Sophia Cathedral, St. John Church, Samuel Fortress, Church of Sveta Bogordica Perivlepta. Lunch at a local restaurant. Day 5 : Bitola – Pella – Thessaloniki

After breakfast, visit to the ancient town Heraclea Lyncestis in Bitola. Then drive to Pella. On the way lunch at a local restaurant. Visit to the Archaeological Museum and the ancient town of Pella. Continue to Thessaloniki, check-in and dinner at the hotel. Overnight in Thessaloniki. (BLD)

Day 6 : Thessaloniki – Vergina – Thessaloniki

Breakfast. Sightseeing tour of Thessaloniki with local guide, visit of St. Demetrius Church, the famous Arch of Galerius and the Rotunda. Lunch at a local tavern. After lunch, visit to Vergina, Archaeological site of Aigai. Return to hotel and free time for leisure, dinner at hotel. Overnight in Thessaloniki. (BLD)

Day 7 : Thessaloniki – Mount Athos – Kavala

Breakfast. Departure for Kavala. On the way optional boat cruise starting from Ouranoupolis to see Mount Athos Monasteries. Lunch at a local tavern. Afterwards we continue to Kavala. Accommodation at a hotel in Kavala. Dinner and overnight in Kavala. (BLD)

Day 8 : Kavala – Philippi – Blagoevgrad

Breakfast. Transfer to Philippi and visit to the archaeological site and the local museum. Lunch at a local restaurant. Drive to Bulgaria. Arrival in the town of Blagoevgrad. Check-in at hotel in Blagoevgrad and dinner. Overnight in Blagoevgrad. (BLD)

Day 9 : Blagoevgrad – Rila Monastery – Sofia

Breakfast. Transfer to Rila Monastery. Visit of the complex including the main church, the local historical museum, Hrelyu’s Tower. Lunch at a local restaurant. Transfer to Sofia. Accommodation, dinner at the hotel and overnight in Sofia. (BLD)

Day 10 : Sofia

Half-day sightseeing tour of Sofia with local guide, including visit of Alexander Nevski Memorial Cathedral, Church of St. Petka of the Saddlers, St. Nedelia Church, Arena of Serdica, Central Market, Banya Bashi Mosque, etc. Lunch & Dinner at local restaurants.
