Tour Overview:

Discover Serbia with SITA in 8 days. Belgrade, the capital of Serbia is known as the ‘Gate of the Balkans’. The city where the Danube and Sava rivers meet is full of history and culture. Novi Sad, the second largest city in Serbia with a relaxed atmosphere is a cultural and educational center. Outside the cities, Serbia offers beautiful landscapes and scenery. Enjoy a wine tasting at one of the wineries. Visit Djerdap Gorge, also known as Iron Gate, the longest and deepest gorge in Europe.


Day 1: Belgrade

Arrival at Belgrade Airport. Transfer to the hotel for accommodation. Panoramic tour of Belgrade: visit to St. Sava Church – largest Orthodox temple on the Balkan Peninsula. Drive through the Old town, New Belgrade, built after the Second World War, Dedinje with the old palaces of the families Obrenovich and Karadjordjevich. Return to the hotel. Optional dinner at traditional Serbian restaurant with live music. Overnight in Belgrade.


Day 2: Belgrade – Sremski Karlovci – Novi Sad – Belgrade

Breakfast. Walking tour in Belgrade from the Republic Square along the main pedestrian street (Knez Mihaylova) to Kalemegdan Park and the Belgrade Fortress with beautiful panoramic view towards the confluence of Danube and Sava rivers. In the afternoon tour to Sremski Karlovci and Novi Sad. Short sightseeing tour in Sremski Karlovci – one of the most important Serbian spiritual centres, famous also for its abundance of small family wineries. Novi Sad is the second largest city in Serbia, known as the Serbian Athens for its great role in the Revival of the Serbian people – here is the seat of some of the most important Serbian cultural institutions, including Matica Srpska. Here, on the shore of Danube river, you can witness one of the most impressive fortresses in Europe – Petrovaradin, called “Gibraltar on Danube” – masterpiece of the fortification construction of the 18th century. Return to Belgrade in the evening. Optional dinner at the hotel. Overnight in Belgrade. (B)


Day 3: Belgrade – Smederevo – Viminacium – Golubac – Lepenski Vir

Breakfast. Departure for Smederevo and visit to the large Smederevo Fortress built in XV c. In 1459, the fortress was conquered by the Ottoman Empire which marked the end of the Serbian medieval state. We continue to Viminacium, one of the most important Roman border cities and military camps during the period 1st – 4th century AD for sightseeing tour of the archaeological reserve. Visit to Golubac fortress, built in the mid-14th century by the Danube river shore. The route continues through the Djerdap Gorge, or Iron Gate – the longest and deepest gorge in Europe, an area of unique flora and fauna. On the way you will have the chance to see the remains of Roman emperor Trajan’s bridge over the Danube river. Also in the gorge, the remains of one of the oldest European settlements can be seen – Lepenski Vir, centre of significant prehistoric culture from the 7th millennium BC onwards. Visit to the local archaeological museum built in situ over the discoveries. In the evening we will reach Kladovo – a town beautifully located on the shore of the Danube river. Accommodation and optional dinner at the hotel. Overnight in Kladovo. (B)


Day 4: Kladovo – Rajac – Felix Romuliana – Nis

Breakfast. Departure for Zajecar. On the way – visit to one of the famous wineries by Rajac for wine tasting. In the afternoon – visit to the archeological site Felix Romuliana, one of the best preserved Roman royal palaces in the world. It is under protection of UNESCO as one of the objects of world cultural heritage. Drive to Nis – the third largest city in Serbia. Accommodation and optional dinner at the hotel. Overnight in Nis. Day 5: Nis – Devil’s Town – Nis

Breakfast. Sightseeing tour in Nis, birthplace of the Roman emperor Constantine the Great: Nis fortress – now a park keeping remains from ancient and mediaeval times, central square and main walking street, Villa Mediana – Roman suburban villa with wonderfully preserved ancient mosaics. In the afternoon – drive to Devil`s town (Djavolja Varos) – natural phenomenon which consists of 202 rocky pyramids. Short hike in the area. Return to Nis and optional dinner at the hotel. Overnight in Nis. (B)


Day 6: Nis – Vrnjacka Banja – Zica – Pozega

Breakfast. Drive to Vrnjacka banja, one of the most beautiful SPA resorts in Serbia and well known tourist centre. Sightseeing tour and free time in the town centre. Visit to the 13th century monastery Zica, founded by the most important Serbian saint – Saint Sava. The monastery has hosted royal coronations of several Serbian rulers. Drive to Pozega. Accommodation and optional dinner at the hotel. Overnight in Pozega. (B)


Day 7: Pozega – Sargan Eight – Drvengrad – Belgrade

Breakfast. Drive to Mokra Gora mountain area for a ride with the Sargan Eight tourist train along rocky gorges and narrow passages. Visit to the ethno village Drvengrad (Wooden town) at Mecavnik hill that was built by the famous movie director Emir Kusturica. Drive to Belgrade. Accommodation and optional dinner at the hotel. Overnight in Belgrade. (B)


Day 8: Belgrade

Breakfast. Transfer to Belgrade Airport and departure. (B)
