Petra
Petra, known as the “Rose-Red City” due to the color of the stones from which it was carved from, is located in southern Jordan. In ancient times, it was the capital of the Nabatean Kingdom – they were an Arab Bedouin tribe who settled in Petra (originally called Raqmu by its inhabitants) more than 2,000 years ago. The Nabateans are credited for carving the famous Treasury (Al-Khazneh) – it is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Jordan. Petra is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the new Seven Wonders of the World.
Wadi Rum
Wadi Rum, also called “The Valley of the Moon”, is a protected desert reserve located in the southern part of Jordan. Designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site, Wadi Rum offers a striking red desert landscape with sandstone mountains, valleys, canyons, dunes, and natural arches. Petroglyphs and burial mounds are a testament to its prehistoric past. The movie “Lawrence of Arabia” was filmed here.
Amman
Amman, the capital and largest city of Jordan, is located in the hills of northwestern Jordan. It was originally built on seven hills with downtown Amman situated on the bottom. The city is a mix of old and new with modern buildings, hotels, restaurants, art galleries, and traditional coffee shops that blend with the remnants of its ancient past – notably the Citadel and the Roman Amphitheater.
