Mexico City Breaks 5 Days
5 Days: Mexico City
Tour Overview:
In this 5 days program, visit of the ruins and the last remnants of the Aztec empire in an archeological site where the foundations of the temple were accidentally found in the 1970s. Visit Buganvilias City, also known as "The City of Eternal Spring" for its warm climate, and we visit the cathedral built as a mission in 1552.
Day 1 – Mexico
Shared transfer from the airport to your hotel.
Day 2 – Mexico – Shared City Tour – Half day (5 hrs)
Panoramic tour of Reforma Avenue. We take Juárez Avenue to get to the Zocalo for a visit of the
Cathedral and the National Palace where we can see some impressive Diego Rivera frescoes illustrating the most important historical events of Mexico. Visit of the ruins and the last remnants of the Aztec empire in an archeological site where the foundations of the temple were accidentally found in the 1970s. We visit the Buenvista Craft Center and we get a panoramic tour of Chapultepec urban park surrounded by residential areas such as Lomas de Chapultepec which is the wealthiest district in the city nearby Chapultepec, and where we can see walled off mansions where famous Mexican people live.
Day 3 – MĂ©xico – Excursion to Taxco & Cuernavaca – Full day (10 hrs)
Departure to Cuernavaca from the south of the city taking the modern highway (We are in Cuernavaca in about 1 hour). We arrive to Buganvilias City, also known as "The City of Eternal Spring" for its warm climate, and we visit the cathedral built as a mission in 1552 and changed to the status of cathedral in 1891 (representing the time of viceroyalty). We continue our journey through winding roads to the Sierra Madre Occidental Mountains, surrounded by valleys and forests of pines and we go into the mountains of Guerrero State to reach the picturesque colonial mining town of Taxco, known as the City of Silver. We visit the famous church of Santa Prisca (it is said it was built with silver from the silver mines ofTaxco). We spare some special time to visit the silver shops walking through its plazas and cobblestone streets, framed by rustic and picturesque red roofed houses that have been subject of
inspiration for countless artists. At 17:00hrs we return to Mexico City and our arrival is scheduled around 20:00hrs.
Day 4 – México
Free day
We recommended one of these two optional excursions:
a) Xochimilco & National University – Half day (5 hrs)
Panoramic tour of Plaza de las Cibeles, the World Trade Center, The bullfighting plaza, and Insurgentes Theater to get to Ciudad Universitaria (UNAM CAMPUS) where we see the great library, the stewardship tower and the Olympic stadium and its mural of the famous Mexican painter Diego Rivera. Later, we continue to Xochimilco to take a vividly-colored boat called “trajinera” that takes us through the mystic canals of Lake Xochimilco (50 minutes).
+ Coyoacan & Frida Kahlo (not scheduled on Mondays)
In addition, we continue to what was formerly the town of Coyoacan. This place is now part of the great Mexican capital city and it fascinates for its great heritage of colorful colonial architecture. We Visit the Church of St. John the Baptist and Frida Kahlo's museum, also called Casa Azul, It is the former house of the painter. The museum proposes of some of her works, many of her personal artifacts and it is also where Frida lived with her husband Diego Rivera. You will get some free time to walk around Plaza Hidalgo and enjoy the cafés or visit the popular market in this neighborhood. P. S. On Saturdays, we could change this visit for “Saturday’s Bazar, Coyoacan and Frida Kahlo”
b) Guadalupe Shrine & Pyramids of Teotihuacan – Half day (7 hrs)
Panoramic tour to Plaza de las Tres Culturas, then we continue the tour in the Basilica, It is the shrine that guards the shroud of Our Lady of Guadalupe. We get a general explanation from the court (to admire the ancient Basilica) and we get a general view of the new Basilica. We continue along the modern highway to go directly to the archeological zone of San Juan Teotihuacan, we visit an obsidian workshop where you can see the process of maguey plants and obsidian pieces. Then we visit the archaeological site where we get some time to climb the impressive Pyramids, visit the Palace of Quetzal-Mariposa, The Temple of the Feathered Serpent, and the Street of the Dead. If you wish you gan lunch in a restaurant nearby.(not included). Half-day Colonia Roma Foodie Walking Tour (Only for the upgrade option) Today, take a half-day foodie walking tour shared with other pax! Then, check off any last items on your to-do list, grab those souvenirs, and dive into one final delicious meal! Colonia Roma is a charming neighborhood in Mexico City which has become the showcase of the best Mexican cuisine! On this tour you will experience 7 restaurants where you will taste the best variety that the Roma offers. The most delicious fish tacos, exquisite contemporary dishes, tasty tamales, Mexican wine, craft beer, mescal and the richest Mexican coffee! The tour will introduce you to the history behind Mexican food and the restaurants to show you how authentic and special Mexican cuisine is. Lead by an expert local guide, you will discover the neighborhood’s stunning architecture of the mansions and buildings, it’s beautiful squares and fountains while you listen to the mysterious and interesting tales of the famous people that have lived there and the hidden stories of la Roma. If Day 4 of your trip falls on a Sunday, your tour might be rescheduled to a different day, as it does not operate on Sundays.
