10 Days: Moscow, St. Petersburg, Petrozavodsk, Murmansk, Vologda, Moscow

Tour Overview:
Fascinating winter trip to the North-West of Russia and the celebration of the New Year over the Arctic Circle. You will feel the atmosphere of the holiday and the magic of winter in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Petrozavodsk, Murmansk and Vologda and celebrate New Year’s Eve with sparkling champagne over the Arctic Circle on the shores of the Barents Sea. It is a truly unusual and colorful journey, like the elusive Northern Lights.

DAY 1: Welcome to Moscow

Welcome to Moscow and Russian winter! Arrival and transfer from the airport to the hotel, check-in. Leisure time.


DAY 2: Moscow

Breakfast at hotel, full day grand city tour of Moscow including visit to Red Square, the very heart of Moscow, with picturesque St. Basil’s Cathedral, visit to the Kremlin, one of the best-known monuments in Russia and in the world, the former residence of the Russian Tsars, the famous Tsar Cannon, the 16th century Tsar Bell, you can take memorable pictures on the Red Square of Russian winter and Moscow New Year decorations which rated as the most beautiful in the world. Lunch, dinner at city restaurants, return back to hotel.


DAY 3: Moscow

Departure from your hotel (pick up from hotels will be from 6.30 to 7.00 am, please remember to order your breakfast box at your hotel the day before departure!) Upon arrival in naples we will take a walk in the historical centre to admire piazza del plebiscito, the royal palace, piazza del municipio, the gallery of umberto i and the san carlo opera house. After lunch in a typical restaurant with neapolitan specialities (water and 1 soft drink included) , with our local guide we will visit the pompeii excavations, unesco listed ruins. This ancient roman city was destroyed by the eruption of mount vesuvius in 79 ad, which buried and preserved it under a sea of volcanic ash for almost 1700 years. The archaeological journey through the ancient city will give us the opportunity to better understand how romans used to live at that time. At the end of the tour, we may be given the opportunity to visit a coral and cameo factory, to admire items manufactured with a technique dating back to ancient greek times. Proceed to sorrento, the gateway to the amalfi coast, with its colorful historical center and pretty waterfront, lined with fishing boats and the new marina grande cruise pier. Check in at your hotel in sorrento, dinner and overnight. Meals: BLD


DAY 4: ST. Petersburg

Breakfast on board, arrival in St. Petersburg, the Northern capital of Russia. Grand city tour including numerous historical monuments, marvelous palaces and beautiful bridges, Peter-Paul Fortress and Peter-Paul Cathedral, St. Isaac’s Cathedral, one of the biggest dome buildings in the world and an architectural masterpiece which comprises innovative and unique engineering ideas of the 19th century. Lunch at city restaurant. In the afternoon excursion to Tsarskoe Selo Summer residence; visit to the Petrovskaya Akvatoria. Dinner at city restaurant. Night city tour. Board the train to continue the journey to the Arctic Circle!


Day 5: Petrozavodsk

Breakfast on board, arrival in Petrozavodsk, capital city of Republic of Karelia. The native karels and veps preserve their unique culture and traditions. Visit to the village of Kinerma to learn the history of the ancient Karelian settlement of 16th century. Lunch at city restaurant. In the afternoon city tour including visit to the Museum of the Fine Arts of Karelia. Dinner onboard with vodka tasting. Departure to Murmansk.


DAY 6: Murmansk

Breakfast on board, today the train crosses the Arctic Circle. As «Imperial Russia» Train pulls through the Kola Peninsula enjoy your morning at leisure, follow the changing scenery with beautiful landscapes of the Khibiny Mountains. Shortly before lunch arrival in Murmansk, the most Northern point of the journey. This town started as a tiny settlement and Arctic trading post, thanks to the influence of the Gulf Stream, the port is ice-free all year round. For the next two days you will stay at city hotel. Lunch at city restaurant. In the afternoon city tour including the major attractions such as nuclear icebreaker Lenin, World War II memorial, local bridges. Festive New Year dinner with a colorful entertainment show program.


Day 7: Murmansk

Late breakfast at hotel, tour to Russia Father Frost House, meet the Saami Santa Claus who invites you for lunch and tell about the lifestyle of Saami, life in tundra, reindeer herding and hunting; walk around the village to capture the landscapes of Arctic winter, dog sledding, games and activities. In the evening return to Murmansk, dinner, leisure time.


Day 8: On Board the Train

Breakfast at hotel, board the «Imperial Russia» Train and continue travelling towards Vologda. Today enjoy the relaxing day and picturesque winter scenery in anticipation of the next stop. You can attend one of the interesting lectures or entertaining program. Lunch, dinner on board.


Day 9: Vologda

Breakfast on board, arrival in Vologda, New Year city tour including visit to the Kremlin and its territory, see some of the remaining wooden houses with carved window frames that are very much like the laces, master class. Return back onboard «Imperial Russia» Train. Lunch, farewell dinner on board. Departure to Moscow.


Day 10: Moscow

Breakfast on board, arrival in Moscow in the morning, departure transfer to the airport, end of the trip.
