Visit Abbotsford House, located on the banks of the River Tweed, and sits at the heart of the landscape that inspired the poetry and novels of its creator, Sir Walter Scott. This is a house that the writer himself designed and as such uniquely embodies a physical representation of the Romantic Movement that he helped to create. Overnight: Edinburgh (B)

Day 4: Edinburgh To Inverness Area
Today you will depart your hotel in Edinburgh and travel to the Highlands. First visit Stirling Castle, situated on a volcanic outcrop guarding the lowest crossing point of the River Forth. It is a great symbol of Scottish Independence and a source of enduring national pride. The castle’s long, turbulent history is associated with great figures from Scotland’s past, such as William Wallace, Robert the Bruce and Mary Queen of Scots. Next will be a visit to one of many whisky distilleries where you will learn about the process of milling, mashing, fermenting and distilling single malt whisky. Continue to your hotel and check in. Overnight: Inverness area (B,D)

Day 5: Inverness Area
This morning enjoy a cruise on Loch Ness where you will have the opportunity to spot Nessie! Next visit Urquhart Castle. Urquhart Castle offers a taste of the Highlands at their most dramatic. Discover 1,000 years of drama, experience a glimpse of medieval life and enjoy stunning views over Loch Ness from the ruins of the greatest castle in the Highlands. Spend the afternoon in Elgin and visit the ruins of Elgin Cathedral, one of Scotland’s most beautiful medieval buildings. Overnight: Inverness area (B,D)

Day 6: Inverness Area To Glasgow
Today depart the Highlands and head south to Glasgow. En-route visit Culloden Battlefield, scene of the 1746 Battle between the Jacobite and British armies. As the last battle being fought on British soil, Culloden marks the beginning of the dismantlement of the structures of Highland society. Then visit Highland Folk Museum that brings to life the domestic and working conditions of earlier Highland peoples. Continue to Glasgow. Overnight: Glasgow (B)

Day 7: Glasgow
